Roma's 2003 Heroes Avenue Expansion Celebrations

of the 20th September 2003 (85th Anniversary of the first planting in the avenue)

What's On:
The three days of event are still under consideration, but are expected
to cover at least:
- Dedication of the additional 40 or so trees by the Queensland Governor
and Roma Town Council Mayor
- Formal dinner with the Governor and military dignitaries including Major
General Cosgrove
- WW1 displays by the National War Museum and Queensland Museum
- WW1 movie '10,000 Horsemen,' from the National Film Archives
- WW1 memorabilia displays by private collectors
- Displays by the Australian Defence Forces
- Lectures by historians
- School essay contests on the meaning of the Soldier's sacrafice and what
the memorials mean to Australia
- Involvement by the soldier's associations of the district, being Roma,
Bungil, Booringa, Bendemere and Warroo Shires
- Re enactment scoieties displays - Moreton Bay Rifles, Rockhampton Light
Horse Association, Artillery and Cannon from private collectors
