Caracas - Santiago de Leon - The Towns of Piracy

An inland settlement on the northern coast of new Andalusia, with its port at the nearby La Guiara

28/5/1595 - Attacked by Preston and Summers, after they captured the captured the fort at Guiara. The Spanish ended up retreating without a serious fight, leaving the English to enter the town stripped of easy booty. They demanded a tribute of 30,000 ducats but the Spanish offered only 3000 while trying to delay the English long enough for reinforcements to arrive. The English found out and razed several outlying villages and the town. They retreated through Guiara and burnt the fort as well.
