Eureka's
25mm WW1 Figures
27th May 2003
British
- 100HBC03,04, 05 WW1 British infantry - Palestine campaign Here we have
a squad of more troops (24mm) ready for action, all wearing shorts and pith
helmets for the desert conditions. We have an officer advancing with pistol
held above his head waving the troops on. His troops consist of advancing
with lewis gun held level at waist, plus 5 others armed with rifles with bayonet.
Their poses are running with rifle held horizontal, standing with rifle held
horizontal, loading reaching for ammo in pouch, loading pulling back bolt
on rifle, and standing throwing grenade. The figures, while simple, all ooze
personality.
- All 11 of above painted
- WW1 Bitish HMG - Palestine Campaign (2)
Here we have a kit cast on a large textured base. Onto the base is sculpted
the legs of the sitting machine gunner, plus the whole of the body of the
lying ammo man, plus his rifle. The machine gun comes in three pieces being
the gun and one leg, the other two legs, and an ammunition belt. The gunners
upper body is another piece, and the loader's head is the last. Assembly is
a breeze and the combination has plenty of charm. Assembled
(minus belt feed)

Civilians
- 1920's women (4) This set consists of
4 ladies (29mm) from the 1920's era, all based on the same pose of standing
casually with left foot forward. Variants are short hair with left hand on
hip, right arm cocked holding a cigarette. She wears a short sleeveless dress
with a second waist length slip over it. Variant two has the same dress style
with a neckerchief. Her right arm is also cocked and her hand appears to be
fiddling with the neckerchief. Her hair is in a bob style. She also wears
a fedora type hat. Variant 3 wears a rather large wrap around coat with chunky
fur trim (or maybe a stole) and very baggy sleeves. A neckerchief is just
visible at the throat. Her hair is short as per varaint 1. Variant 4 stands
with hands on hips. She has short wavy hair under a chunky 'bandage' around
her head. She wears a multi layered outfit composed of flat and wavy material.
All girls are neat and pleasant with an austere sort of look except the last
who looks a bit more approachable (!)
- Evil cultists - traditional western
style cultists in long cowls 7 variants
Germans
- (missed scan) One figure, running along holding rifle horizontal.
He has all the usual bits, but something bout his posing feels wrong. The
top half is reasonable, but I get the feeling the legs are abit out of proportion,
maybe a little too long, and bent a little too much. The way he holds the
rifle also seems wrong, or at least uncomfortable. Generally the figure is
pretty good, and the sculptor certainly has promise. He has a cast on base.
Eye height about 30mm.
- German Grenadier - 1 variant
- The Dog That Started the War - I got no ide
what this is about, but that's what it is labelled . Here we have a large
exaggerated poodle, in this pose the dogs eyes are 20mm above the ground.
He has a good dog face, and the transition from fluff to shaved is good. It's
a definate HE. The handler (29mm) is a cartoony German, very round at the
belly tapering to a tiny prussian hat. He wears tiny glass. His sword scabbard
is separate, and fits on his left side to a belt just made for it. Cute and
cartoony, but no idea of its use.
Ghurkas
- 100HBC01 Ghurka infantry (4) Eye height
25mm 2 basic poses with 2 variants of each. Both are advancing, one rifle
up, the other rifle down. The variants are in the amount of packs on their
back. They have the 303 rifle, soft hat, bandolier, kukri, bayonet. The faces
are suitable and the poses quite nice.
- 100HBC02 Ghurka Infantry2 (4) Eye
height 25mm 4 variants in 2 pairs. One pair runs at full steam, left leg almost
vertical, right leg bent and lifted back. His right hand is held over his
head with the kukri, the left arm bent at the elbow so the pistol is held
forward horizontal. The second pair are advancing slowly, left leg forward,
right arm held down across the body with the kukri, the left hand held down
at knee level holding his rifle horizontal. They all wear boots, banded gaiters,
shirt, soft hat, bandolier, canteen, scabbard and pouch. The variant in each
pair is either long pants, or culottes. For the obscurity of the subject matter,
the posing is a little unique, but certainly not bad. Casting, animation and
sculpting is good.
