Eureka's
28mm Aztecs!
A small range of figures made by a
resident sculptor for Eureka Minitaures in Melbourne. My page has been re
organised to match the official release of the range. AZT15-19 are not a confirmed
number. To complement the Aztecs a range of Maya and Tlaxcalans is already under
way, and a range of Incas is due after that. Eye height varies 28-30mm 18th

Mayans
- Mayan Gods and altar
- Mayan Lords and ladies
- Mayan Dwarf on seated on mat
- Mayan bass relief wall (resin)
- Warriors 1 (4) AtlAtl warriors, Two
combat variants, running as if to cast, one walking briskly with 'javelins'
resting on shoulder, and walking casually with atl atl held down in right
hand. They come with a plain small shield with cast on 'javelins' . The shield
for the walking briskly guy does not sit neatly as his arm is posed slightly
the wrong way, tucked too closely to the body below the other arm. You won't
notice unless you look close. They each have a separate tail piece, which
sits in a hole in the rear belt. The lug on the attachment will need to be
snicked down to get a snugger fit, and the tail feathers getting abit of a
rebend to suit the flow of the figure. Easy stuff. The walking casually figure
also has his head feathers cast separate, and is placed very oddly on the
base. They are adorned in a simple cloth short sleeved pull over, loin cloth,
and shin 'sandals.' They have long earrings, hair piled up into a cone with
tie and feathers. Over all quite nice, and ethnically correct. I can see these
are more colourful than the Aztec versions, and a couple units may appear
to harry my Saurus army.
- Warriors 2 (4) Armed with what looks abit
like a khukri, they are both advancing wielding it. They wear quilted thigh
long coats, loin cloth, leather knee guards, and sandals. They have a small
tuft of feathers to the head. Their shield is very attractive, a rosette design
with a long length of 'reeds' draped over it. I don't know the historical
basis for the shield, but it looks very nice. I'm going to hunt some shields
up to arm some old plastic GW saurus.
- Warriors 3 (4) Common warriors with long (8')
spears. They wear what looks like a 'banded' cotton quilt chest wrap, loin
cloth and some form of shin guard. Poses are pretty casual except for the
running spear thrower. They come with small plain shields. They have no jewelry.
- AtlAtl Nobles (2) AtlAtl Noble warriors.
Similar to the previous releases, but these guys are more done up, so I assume
they are nobles. Two combat variants, one running as if to cast, one walking
briskly with 'javelins' held in the left hand with his right holding the atlatl
and shield. They come with a plain small shield with cast on 'javelins' .
They are adorned in a simple cloth short sleeved pull over, loin cloth, and
shin 'sandals.' The guy on th eleft has a stylised eagle helm by the looks,
with banded shoulder wrap. He wears a fringed thigh length skirt with leggings
to his shins, plus sandals. He has an ornate breast decortation, and is also
carrying a severed head in his left arm, which is held down at knee level.
The same hand also holds a few javelins, but I just noticed that the business
end of them has been miscast and missing. You'll also notice the javelin he
is casting is also miscast. The other wears a wrap around fringed thigh length
skirt, tufted shin decoration and sandals. He has a unique large sized necklace
pendant. His head dress is banded with an eagle head on the front, with vertical
feathers. Across his lower back is a concentric circle pattern large decoration.
Posing and detailing very crisp, the main problem being some miscasting on
the first.
- Lord (1) Comes in 3 peices, being main body,
feather crest and banded, tasselled shield. He stands very casually armed
with flint dagger and serated 7' spear. He wears a crusader looking coif helm
with nasal guard with shoulder shawl. He wears a plain short tunic with lower
fringe, and shin sandals. His shield is quit einteresting, being tall rectangular,
with horizontal bands, and leather edge tassels. As a shield, it has some
interesting merit. Over all, quite fine, though the posing is wooden, and
the nasal guard quite unusual.
- AtlAtl warriors in banded cotton vest.

- AtlAtl warriors in quilted cotton armour
(4)
- Ornate Spear Warriors (4)
- Mayan Alligator Hero 1
- Mayan Snake Hero 1
- Mayan God - Gi
- Archers (5) and Archers
2 (all in same pack)
- Porters (4) The three walking porters from this set all have a deer skin
on their back which runs froim the top of the legs up over the head. Two of
these are holding their laod with both hands, while the third holds a spear
as a walking stick in his right hand. The fourth porter is a squatting pose,
as though just being loaded up and preparing to stand. There are 4 separate
loads, each based upon a 6' length of framing roughly equivalent to a ladder.
Each load is unique, being formed of various cotton bundles, pots and weapons.
I get the feeling particular figures come with particular loads to suit their
back, but there is some interchangeability between which porter can carry
which load. Porter Pair 1, Porter

- (P)
- 100AZT14 Sacrifice set (6+altar)
- 100AZT15 Cuachicqueh leader (28mm) - a mohawk
leader (I assume though he has no back banner), he stands pointing away to
the right with his sword, while his left hand holds a 6' spear vertically.
He looks off to where he is pointing. He wears a simple loin cloth and necklace
of feathers (though the necklace does not continue behind the neck - sticky
tape maybe) I believe he should also have a shield of some description as
he has a band around 3/4 of his left forearm which would indicate a shield
strap.
- 100AZT16 Quaxalotl - Feathersuit commander with
umbrella banner Feathersuit commander with umbrella banner - an ornate
figure, a fully suited feather wariror, with a back banner which comes in
three pieces - the main decorated hood, front fringe, long rear fringe. The
hood has a slot in the bottom to take the thickened top of the back support.
There is a also a set of long feathers which go into a hole in the back of
the head on top of the hood. The figures weapon hand is spearate, and holds
a 6' spear, though it could be swapped with one of the sword variants from
another figure. The base has an extra back tab to prevent the figure overbalancing.
- 100AZT17 General in feathersuit tunic, coyote
ears and command drum (P)
- 100AZT18 Tlacochcalcatl in skins with spirit mask
(Tzitzimitl - Demon of the Air) He wears a full length skin suit with loin
cloth, and carved spirit mask. His banner is composed of three flags with
tassels, the new release having the tassels as one piece which all fit neatly.
Note the picture shows the old style tassels which didn't fit. He is armed
with a 6' spear and tasseled shield. (P)
- 100AZT19 Drummer - A neat 2 piece item, the
drum is very thin, diameter 6mm and 18mm high. Perhaps it should be a bit
thicker. It is well sculpted and has the image of a stylised bird on it. It
will not stand easily on its own and will need to be fixed to a base. The
drummer (28mm) stands feet apart, with left hand held at the shoulder with
a drum stick, the right held down and out a little with its drum stick. He
wears a frilled waist sash which has a long tail at the front. Around his
neck is a very wide chunky necklace. He has a slightly exaggerated big lipped
face, with large earrings. His hair is pretty straggly and he has a little
saggy belly (too much feasting by the looks).
- Monteczuma II - The general himself with
small sepoarate plain shield and unique back banner. You'll notice the banner
pole is a brass rod, and apparently this will be the new standard pole type
for further mayan/texcalan releases.
- Conch Musician -
- Porters (4) - With separate loads being
either wicker basket or sack attached to timber back frame.
- Captives (2)
Tlaxcalans
- Tlaxcalans (3) Three test casts of this confederation
opposing the aztecs. No shields supplied (yet) All figures wear a thigh length
sleeveless padded jerkin, with loin cloth. They also have a head band from
which stands three feathers. Figure 1 is advancing left foot forward, and
has a separate sword arm. Figure 2 is also advancing left foot forward, with
sword raised to shoulder level. Both figures have a bit of flash between arm
and body, so may change style yet. Figure 3 is an officer, standing feet apart,
holding his 6' spear in his right arm, while his left hand cups his sword
at waist height. He has a separate feather stand on his head which slots into
a hole in his head. Adorned similar to the Aztec styles,
the head band is a blend of red and white strips. (P)
- Xipe Warrior Priest - A priest
dressed in the flayed skin if a sacrificial victim. The figure is in a very
dynamic dynamic/advancing pose, wielding a sword in his left hand. He is cast
a with a separate feather collection to his head. The figure does not come
with a shield.
