Eureka's 25mm 100 Club Ancients
Last update 4th June 2005
Amazons
- All the amazons have reasonable faces, and all look ethnically suitable
to my untrained eyes. The posing and clothing is more than respectable. The
figures are all simple and suitably historic for my non perfectionist needs.
All figures are consistently the same size and proportion. They will sit quite
well along side your Ral Partha, Mithril and even early Reaper. I confess
to be being quite a dolt when assembling multi part figures, so the seperate
shield, spear & base does keep me amused for hours on end. However, it's not
a great distraction from the figures, and I think anyone with a little patience
will do fine with them. Some of the girls had some flash, which was not excessive
or difficult to remove. I had very few figures with any seam line at all,
which is especially good for nude figures. Unarmoured amazons all wear the
same short, sleeveless tunic, with left breast exposed, and no body jewelry.
Nude figures are absolutley nude with no jewelry. All packs come with 4 poses.
All figures sculpted by Neil Hollaway from Shadowforge. None of the figures
have secondary weapons. i.e. hip daggers or short swords. Figures vary 25-27mm
tall, well proportioned, and have no excessive American silicon 'enhancements'.
All have long hair, either loose or tied in some form at the upper neck.
- 100AMZ01 Greek style amazons in metal cuirass
and tunict - 4 variants with spear or sword. Front & rear image shown
- 100AMZ02 Unarmoured Hoplites with round shield
and 10' spear. 4 variants These girls are basicaly the same figure type
as the skirmishers below, except they have the round hoplite shield and their
spears are about 10 foot long. Figure 1 is a slight variant of figure 3 in
the unarmoured skirmishers above. Her facial expression with lips open and
eyes in a way that sort of looks angry. Figure 2 is standing left foot forward,
shield arm parallel to the ground and held forward, her body leaning slightly
forward. Her right arm is held low at hip level with the spear basically parallel
to the ground. Figure 3 is standing parallel to the enemy direction, left
foot forward. Left arm is held down and forward, elbow parallel to the ground.
The right arm is held down and out from the body about hip level, the spear
held up at about 15 degrees above horizontal. Figure 4 is a casual pose, standing
facing forward, head slightly turned right. She is certainly a modest little
thing, for she is the only girl of the new releases to have a full tunic.
She is also one of the two girls wearing a greek horse hair crested helm.
However, her helm is sat in such away on her hair that her whole face is exposed.
The space between horse hair plume and the womans hair has flash on all 10
of these figures I have, but it is easily removed. Her left hand hangs down
with the shield. Her right arm hangs down with elbow bent, so that she holds
her spear vertically.
- 100AMZ03 Nude Hoplites with round shield and
10' spear. 4 variants These girls are fully nude figures and could
easily swap components with the light infantry. Figure 1 is almost like a
javelin throwing pose, arm raised overhead with spear, shield arm held low.
Figure 2 is kneeling, shield arm raised to shoulder height, right arm held
down to knee, with spear raised roughly 10 degrees above horizontal. Her torso
is twisted about 45 degrees to the left. Figure 3 is almost about to run forward,
knees bent body slightly forward. Her left arm is held down forward. Her right
arm is held down at the knee, the spear facing down at about 10 degrees and
off to the side a little. Figure 4 is a variant of the casual Unarmoured Hoplite,
but her head is turned left instead and her spear arm is held abit further
away from the body.
- 100AMZ04 Unarmoured skirmishers/javeliners.
Crescent shield and 7' spears/javelins. 4 variants For those unfamiliar
with the earlier amazon releases from Eureka, the spears are seperate, as
is the shield arm from the elbow down. These 4 ladies are armed with roughly
7 foot spears (javelins), and have 2 shield alternatives, both crescent shaped
of 2 sizes. Unusually the hands of these girls and all the rest following
are cast solid. Former figures had hands cast open. You will need to drill
these hands to fit the spears. The first figure is standing left foot far
forward, spear arm horizontal and held back holding wrist upward. Assmebled
in basic layout, she stands side on to the enemy, spear hand held away behind
her in a sort of thrusting pose across her breasts. The shield is held forward
parallel to the enemies direction. Due to the way the elbow joint is, some
creative gluing could bring the shield back across her body perpendicular
to the enemies direction. The second figure stands as though a javeliner about
to do a coiled standing throw with her arm drawn back. She holds her shield
parallel to the direction to the enemy. Unless you're prepared to do a bit
of construction work, you won't turn the shield back across her body. The
third figure is an action pose, turning across her body to the left. She holds
the left arm down, her right arm above shoulder height, but not in an over
arm pose. She holds her spear basically in a thrusting pose at eye height.
For the perfectionist her double tied hair goes from straight before the ties
to very curly beyond them. The fourth figure is a casual pose, standing legs
just apart looking forward, shield arm hanging down with shield basically
parallel to the enemy direction. The right hand is at hip level, slightly
bent at the elbow to hold the spear almost vertically.
- 100AMZ05 Nude skirmishers/javeliners. Crescent
shield and 7' spears/javelins. 4 variants Same basic comments as
Unarmoured Skirmishers. Figures are utterly nude. Figure 1 is is girl advancing
left leg forward, knees bent so as to be half crouching. The left arm is held
down, with the elbow parallel to the ground and the body direction. The right
arm is held way down to the knee level, with the spear held at about a 30
degree andle. The right hand just touches above the right knee and is easily
snicked to move the right arm about for variety. Both girls I got with my
pack had minor flashing from arm to body. Not bad heavy flash though. Figure
2 is advancing left leg forward, right arm held back with at shoulder level,
the spear pointing across the body and down at about 10 degrees. The shield
arm is held forward and down at about 30 degrees. Figure 3 is half advancing
left leg forward, similar to the above figure, but her torso is twisted more
toward the left so her body is turned about 45 degree from her hip line. The
arm is the same as above but the spear is held up at about 10 degrees. Figure
4 is a casual pose, standing legs just apart, the left arm hanging down, the
elbow bent down at 45 degrees, the shield parallel to the enemy direction.
Her whole pose is basically facing full forward. Her right arm is also hung
down by her side, elbow slightly bent, the spear held about 60 degrees vertical
and also held across the body at an angle.
- 100AMZ06 Unarmoured archers with short bow.
4 variants Advancing firing, standing leg forward watching arrow
zoom away, standing legs not quite together - drawing arrow from quiver on
back, kneeling drawing arrow from quiver on back Comments: All figures carry
a small bow with quiver slung over back and cast integral to the figure, which
is different to the Eureka Assyrian range. The first 2 figures are well posed
and animated. Their bow reconnects to the figure at the knee or lower tunic
for a length of about1mm or so and can be easily snicked to move the bow arm
about abit to give more variety. The standing loading figure appears to have
short arms, and is also the tallest figure and could look a little odd to
the perfectionist, but this is not detrimental to the figure. The kneeling
figure is fine. It could be possible with a sharp knife & patience to snick
the bow conenction to the leg and move it about for more variety.
- 100AMZ07 Nude archers with short bow. 4 variants
Standing leg forward having just fired. Standing leg forward drawing arrow
from quiver on back, kneeling firing, standing casual hands at side holding
bow across front of thighs. Coments: All figures are reasonably well posed
and proportioned. They are truly nude bar quiver and strap and carry a short
bow. The first 2 figures are well posed and animated. Their bow reconnects
to the figure at the knee or lower tunic for a length of about1 mm or so and
can be easily snicked to move the bow arm about abit to give more variety.
The kneeling figure is fine, though the right cheek appears a little out of
proportion, but unless you look close, you'll miss it. This does not detract
from the figure. The casual figure stands holding bow looking wistfully toward
the enemy.
- 100AMZ08 Nude slingers. 4 variants Standing
leg forward, sling strung between hands behind head. Standing leg forward,
sling strung between hands at hip level. Standing casual legs not quite together,
sling strung between hands which are at the front of each side of the hips.
Kneeling picking stone from ground. Comments: All figures are reasonably well
posed & proportioned. I found the faces on 3 of these girls quite attractive.
They are truly nude except for a hip stone satchel slung over the right shoulder.
The first figure has the more unusal face, but unless you look hard you won't
really notice. The second figure has no problems. The kneeling figure is kneeling
on the right knee, picking up a stone at the right knee. The left hand is
at the left knee with the sling. The woman looks down to the stone she is
picking up. The fourth figure stands casually looking slight left toward to
the enemy. She is a fine looking woman.
- Unarmoured light hand axewomen with peltast.
4 variants eye height 25-27mm. The girls wear a simple skirt with
heavy belt and nothing else. They are armed with a light hand axe with a triangular
point on the back face held in the right hand, the left holding a peltast
style crescent shield. Its outer face is plain, the reverse having a wavy
wicker sort of look. The girls are in good animated poses as is usual from
Neil Holloway. The first girl stands left leg forward with her axe held almost
directly straight up over the top of her head, the shield trust forward parallel
to the front foot. She has shoulder length curly hair. Figure 2 stands facing
forward with her head turned left. Her left (shield) arm is held out straight
left, and her right arm is held down low to the right with the axe pointing
down away about 45 degrees. Her weight is placed on her right leg, with the
left raised on tiptoes. Take the axe away and place a javelin in there and
she would make a truly wonderful winding up for the throw pose. Her curly
hair is just past shoulder length and loosely tied with a ribbon behind the
head with the ribbon ends just poking out across her neck. Figure 3 is half
running forward, left leg bent and forward, with the right also bent away
backwards. Her whole pose is centred about her about to bring the axe from
shoulder height to swing over onto her target. The left arm is parallel to
the direction of travel. She has long straight hair. Posing is terrific with
her mouth open no doubt yelling a war cry as she prepares to bring the axe
home on target. She is probably just a bit shorter than the other 3. Figure
4 stands with most of her weight on her right leg, with the left slightly
bent and lifted with just the toes on the ground. Her head is held up and
to the left. Her left arm is held out at shoulder height to the left with
the shield parallel to the shoulders. The right arm is held slightly up directly
to the right as though she is probably about to swing the axe across the front
of the body. The pose is probably best described as about to swing the axe
up as though to fight a light cavalry person swinging down upon her. Animation
and casting is terrific.
- Unarmoured amazon guard with horned helm,
hand axe, and no shield. 4 variants Eye height 25mm. 4 variants,
all armed with hand axe and no shield or second weapon. They wear a tunic,
with a cuirass. They wear a metal Viking type helm with horns. These are very
animated girls, in 4 axe swinging poses. They are tedious to describe, refer
the images. They make excellent additions to the rest of the amazon figures,
but I will be adding shields. Casting and sculpting is good.
- Traditional Amazon cavalry archers
- Amazon unarmoured cavalry
- Armoured Phalangites, with bronze/leather
cuirass and cloth skirt and sleeves. Three wear a Greek plumed helm. All wear
shin greaves, and a bracer on the right arm. They all hold their rather long
spear (about 12' long) held about 30 degrees up from horizontal straight ahead
of them. They match in exactly with the previous release amazons in style
and scale. Hanging on their left arm is also a small plain round shield, which
attaches via a lug/hole connection, which works successfully. They also have
a separate sword scabbard (not in scan) attached to the right hip.
- Nude Phalangites. There should be
4 variants, but I only got three, with a double. They are nude, but all wear
shin greaves and a bracer on the right arm. They are armed with a 12' long
spear held about 10 degrees up from horizontal. My assumption is that 3 wear
Greek helms with plume. Hanging on their left arm is also a small plain round
shield, which attaches via a lug/hole connection, which works successfully.
They do not have sword scabbards.
- Chariot Crew (2) and Runner (1) - This
pack contains only the chariot crew, no chariot. The runner is separate, and
I'd be expecting more variants. I better check on that. These girls are done
by a new sculptor, and I like them. They seem finer boned than Neil's earlier
amazon figures, but are the same height. Maybe they're not as busty and the
hair not as prominent. Eye height 28mm. They have NO base. The warrior has
her helm pushed back over her head revealing her face, in a pose maybe not
real, but similar to an earlier amazon figure pose. She wears cuirass with
leather skirt, cloth skirt below. She stand casually, left foot forward, right
hand held forward to grip the chariot rail. Right arm held down behind holding
a thrusting spear/short javelin. She has a shoulder strap to support a sword,
which I didn't receive. I suspect these two girls are test castings. The driver
is in a nice fluid pose whipping her left arm over her head, the right held
forward to imaginary reigns. She wears a cloth waist sash which ties down
a length of cloth which looks abit like a sideless chiton. It covers only
one breast. Her 10' whip is cast separate. I had a little flash between whip
hand and head. The runner is in a very active running pose and is very leggy,
though that's more the pose than anything else. She wears a nappy (close enough)
and is otherwise unadorned. She has two lugs on her left arm to take a new
style crescent sheild. Her right arm is held down and out and grips a separate
short thrusting spear. Excellent figures, nice faces, well done.
- I assume these girls will be using the 2
Man Mycenean Chariot as their platform, but that's not confirmed yet.
- Amazon Chariot Crew (3) These girls
are done by Alan Marsh of the UK, and I like them. They seem finer boned than
Neil's earlier amazon figures, but are the same height. Maybe they're not
as busty and the hair not as prominent. Eye height 28mm. They have NO base.
The warrior comes in two variants. The first has her helm pushed back over
her head revealing her face, in a pose maybe not real, but similar to an earlier
amazon figure pose. The second wears the helm covering her face. They both
wear a cuirass with leather skirt, cloth skirt below. They both stand casually,
left foot forward, left hand held forward to grip the chariot rail. Right
arm is held down behind holding a thrusting spear/short javelin in one, the
other with right arm held high pointing the spear to the sky. They have a
shoulder strap to support a sword in scabbard. The driver is in a nice fluid
pose whipping her left arm over her head, the right held forward to imaginary
reigns. She wears a cloth waist sash which ties down a length of cloth which
looks abit like a sideless chiton. It covers only one breast. Her 10' whip
is cast separate. I had a little flash between whip hand and head. I bought
three copies of the chariot, and the driver was the same for each. Eye height
27mm
- Amazon Runners (4) The runners
are in very active running poses and are very leggy, though that's more the
posing than anything else. Taking the runners from the photo, the first wears
a nappy (close enough) with a short cloak. and is otherwise unadorned. She
carries a large round shield on her right arm, with the shield hand cast open
to accept a short stabbing spear. Pose 2 is wearing the nappy, but no cloak.
She has a bow quiver slung on her left hip, which contains the short bow and
arrows. Pose three wears a chiton, and is in the process of throwing her javelin.
Her left hand is held across the body with 2 lugs to take a crescent shield.
Pose 4 wears a nappy and has two lugs on her left arm to take a crescent shield.
Her right arm is held down and out and grips a separate short thrusting spear.
Excellent figures, nice faces, well done. The animation in the running is
very good, and overall they make quite nice light infantry pieces. Eye height

- Amazon Guard Cavalry - riders
horses - older
horses used by archer - one piece

- Amazon Heavy Cavlry - riders 1,
riders 2, horses,
horses 2

Elamites
- 100ELM02 - Archers - 4 variants
- 100ELM01 - 2 Mule cart with 6 'crew'
- 100ELM03 - Spearman (4) The spear variant
of the already released Elamite archers. The first wears a simple shirt tunic,
cross straps and a belt. He carries a short 6' spear held tight in defence
at the waist. He has short hair, beard, and a ribbon tied about his head.
Figure height 25mm The other 3 figures are totally different. These 3 are
more modern looking biblical men, with the same elamite tunic cut high on
both hips, and wide belt and cross straps to torso. They each have a large
rectangular wicker shield, 6' spear and quiver case with short bow. All are
bearded and are essentially the same pose in the lower body, which is left
foot forward advancing. Variants are right hand overhead with spear, right
hand held down at hip with spear, right hand held at shoulder level holding
spear vertical. The left hand is held essentially held at stomach level to
hold the shield
- Elam04 Cavalry (4)
Greek
- Thracian Peltasts - Wears short
boots, baggy toga falling as a skirt to just below groin, long cape to almost
ground level, with leather pointy cap with long neck guard. All left hands
hold the crescent pelta shield, 3 are separate shields which allows a javelin
to first be slotted also into the hand. All right hands hold a javelin. All
are left foot forward in an advancing thrusting type pose. Not being familair
with this troop type, I have no comparison. Figures are all bearded and moustached.
These are not bad figures, they just stand out and grab me.
Kushite
- 100KSH02 Spearmen (4) Eye height
25mm 4 variants 2 wear a sleeved tunic with fringed hem, sash belt, separate
quiver with bow on back, and a long feather fixed atop their head. One holds
a spear at shoulder height, left foot forward, as though thrusting overarm,
the other standing turned slightly left and looking up abit. He stands right
arm bent at elbow, and holding his spear vertically abit away from the body.
The other two variants wear a tunic with split loin, from which hangs a long
loin cloth. They have a belt and long feather fixed atop their head. They
are both running, right leg forward, left arm holding shield at his chest,
while the other arm holds a spear at thigh height facing forward. One horizontal,
the other about 60 degrees. Sculpting, animation and casting is good. They
each have a small separate shield.
- 100KSH01 Archers (4) (seperate quivers
on 2)
Macedonians
- Pikemen (2) Standing with pike
held vertical, he wears banded cuirass over short skirt or short sleeved tunic.
He has shin greaves and plain conical helm. His plain round shield is slung
on his back. Quite neat and tidy except for the long flimsy pike. Pose 2 is
half advancing, with pike held up about 30 degrees. He wears a cuirass over
a short skirt or short sleeved tunic. He wears a pretty traditional greek
non crested helmet with cheek guards. Posing is quite nice.

Mycenean
Paphlagonians (Thracians)
- (26mm) Generally, all figures wear breeches, long sleeved shirt and boots.
All wear phrygian style helmet unless noted and most have beards.
- Archers (2) Two variants with short bow,
one firing, one loading. They also feature a quiver attached by a strap over
one shoulder
- 100PER04 Command (3) Officer, Trumpeter,
Standard. The officer stands waving his swrd over his head and holds a crewscent
shield in the other. The standard bearer holds a simple staff with two overlapping
diamonds at the top. The trumpeter wears a woolly cap, and holds his trumpet
up at an angle two handed while he blows his signal.
- 100PER3,5&6 Infantry (8) Six spearmen,
two swordsmen, all with separate weapon hands. They also have separate shields
some of which have extra spears cast integrally with them which fit in a slot
in the shield hand. Shields are either crescent or small buckler types. Four
wear woolly caps, 4 with phrygian helmets.
- 100PER10&11 Cavalry (4) All four are
one piece castings with separate weapon hand (spear) and shield. You get two
small round shields and 2 crescent shields. Two horses are charging, two are
trotting with the riders being one woolly cap and one phrygian per horse type.
- 100PER12 Mounted Archers
(2)
- Casualties (2)
- Two foot soldiers, in typical outfit with pointed cap. One lies flat
on his back cluthing his tummy, the other sits hunched over like he's had
a bad night, clutching his tummy also. Also go with the Scythians below.
Romans
- Legionary (32mm) with seperate sword,
pilum and rectangular shield
Scythians
- Casualties (2) Two casualties,
one lying stretched out fallen down face first. He wears typical scythian
outfit. The other is more interesting, being a fallen horse, half rolled onto
the rider, who is trying to extricate himself. His bow lies fallen behind
him. The horse looks dynamic, kicking out with his head turned. Very nice
vignette piece. Also go with the Paphlagonians above.
Sumerians (26mm)
