Dominion 25mm WW1 Aussies

Last update 29th March 2004

This is a small range of WW1 Aussies commencing with the Light Horse. I was really taken with the samples, though they are quite chunky figures. Let's say they are very big boned, and the faces are very strong jawed. Eye height 28mm roughly. They are sculpted by Bill Tyson. The initial figures are quite chunky, with the later sculpts not quite as solid. Their uniform consists of long sleeved shirt, long pants, boots, gaiters (two piece rather than strapped), bandolier, water bottle, satchel, 303 rifle, bayonet+scabbard. They wear a soft Australian hat with emu plume. There is a little flash between some rifles and hat, but it's not serious. The horses are big, both tall and long, more so with the head and neck. I scaled one out against a Front Rank horse (my standard) and the wheel base was pretty close, though all aspects were chunkier. The horse is nominally 44mm long, compared to FR 38mm (nose to bum). The horses come with all reins, saddle, 2 satchels, blanket, sack, and coat roll. The saddle to saddle blanket transition is not defined, but mostly disappears below the rider. One horse stands casual walking very slowly, the other pulled up slightly walking, head turned left (She also has a water canteen) and the third is strecthed out galloping.

These figures are full of character, and being a little chunky make good solo display pieces. They sit OK (but thick) against the Renegade WW1 figures, but appear noticeably large/thick compared to the Eureka miniatures. Excellent stuff and I'm looking forward to more.
